In summer, when temperatures become excessive, leaves curl upwards to control internal leaf temperatures. Misting when temperatures exceed 95 degrees F can help. Leaf curling has absolutely nothing to do with leaf hydration on a healthy plant. Leaf angle (drooping) is a result of hydration in the petiole (leaf stem). It’s affected by soil & atmospheric moisture levels & outside air temperatures.
Make sure your rhododendron has adequte water. Give it a good, deep watering. They should be constantly moist, but not wet! Here is the Rhododendron Scociety’s site on care: http://www.rhododendron.org/subsequentcare.htm
